It's the same as being inspired from it, I myself have original characters whose names are inspired by certain words ranging from people's name to objects that I like/heard/randomly came across and liked the the sound of and how it fits a certain character I've created. If Kubo hadn't come across Jaeger-LeCoultre (or anything else 'Jeager') to begin with, Grimmjow's surname might have been drastically different, which frankly I cannot bear to imagine. Think about it.

*pats* It's understandable, learning facts from school is more important than something as 'trivial' as this X'D The answer is Jaeger-LeCoultre.

Before, I thought it came from the adjective 'grim' and 'jaw' for his hollow mask XD
Thanks Wikipedia and You for the true origin of his name :D

His first name is stemmed from that of Nicholas Grimshaw, an English architect noted for modernist buildings. His last name however is a little to sexy sounding for the German word for hunter and Jaquez.

Then again, the name rolls off the tongue, so it's just perfect.

I went with the Swedish watch & clock manufacturer, however. I did not Google his name, but I will however, in the fun of things, take a guess in the dark and pray I'm right this time around.

I'm inclined to press the 'Jägermeister'-button - because Kubo had definitely been drunk when creating his surname. In fact, it's a combo of German and French parts:
'Jäger' (yes, hunter) + 'Jaques' (Jacob)= brain bingo!

Doesn't make sense at all.
